K9 Angels was founded in 2019 by Patrick and Maria Nolan, owners of Bayside Kennels in Virginia Beach and The Ruff House Stay & Play in Chesapeake. Through conversations with other dog daycare/kennel owners as well as shelter directors and hospital social services staff, it became quite clear that an organization needed to exist to help bridge the financial gap for pet owners/patients who were facing a horrible decision - choose between their health or their pet. We heard story after story of pets being surrendered because the owner required in-patient medical treatment and had no one to care for the pet or stories of hospital staff calling animal control or the local shelter because they found a patient’s car with a pet locked inside. K9 Angels is here to help prevent stories like this from occurring in our community. We are standing by to assist hospital social services, shelters, and other community organizations in identifying patients who are refusing or delaying medical treatment because they can’t find an affordable place to keep their pet during their hospital stay.

K9 Angels Inc is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations are tax deductible.

Every penny of your donation is used to fund vaccinations

and boarding for these vulnerable animals

How it works...

If you or someone you know is in need of safe, professional pet boarding during a hospitalization, please reach out to us via our contact form or via phone.  Once we receive a patient's information, we will get in touch to determine the level of need, types of pets, and anticipated duration of treatment.  If logistical support is needed such as picking up the pet from the patient's home or meeting at the hospital we will provide such support on a case by case basis.  We will also ensure, at no cost to the owner, the pet has all required vaccinations needed to safely board.  Based on the factors discussed above, we will determine the best boarding facility for the pet. We do not board pets in private homes, only in reputable boarding establishments who have been screened and approved by K9 Angels.
